Bruce Wilson, 7:30 Report, 27.11.2012

What a lightweight performance by the ABC.

  • Don't prepare your interviewer properly,
  • don't ask any tough questions,
  • don't test the veracity of the answers,
  • sit down and make it look all homey,
  • Interview the subject in his own home where he's most comfortable,
  • don't ask any questions that aren't on the list.

Despite the comfortable setting, Wilson on the ABC 7:30 Report last night still looked uncomfortable.
He started off not remembering much and looking more like a simpleton than a criminal mastermind. He couldn't remember causing $5,000 to be deposited in his girlfriends' bank account, but he could specifically remember the reason why Gillard’s handwriting was on the application to incorporate the AWUWRA Association "She filled out on the, on the front page, the words, um, 'Australian Workers Union dash Workplace Reform Association' I think that was the extent of any writing put on it by her". Fancy being able to remember that bit of information, but still not know if you gave her $5,000. He also specifically remembers that she in no way benefited from the AWUWRA slush fund (but he didn't rule out any of the other unauthorised accounts).
He specifically remembers the honorable intentions of the formation of the association, but later on still calls it a 'slush fund'.
Wilson appeared nervous at the outset of the interview, and from about the nine minute mark until almost the end of the interview Wilson can be seen sweating profusely, it can clearly be seen running down just in front of his right ear (at the commencement of the interview he was not sweating).
About the 11:50 mark, he gets the events in the order -

  1. Purchase of the Kerr Street Property;
  2. Create power of attorney.

Unfortunately the interview was not really an investigation but more a feel good piece for the ABC and Wilson.
The piece was never intended to be anything other than propaganda in support of Julia Gillard, if it had been there would have been a senior Journalist, tough questions, and would have been more than the ten minute 'getting to know you' interview.

Oh, and Wilson is an 'older white male' according to Christine Milne (Greens, 27.11.2012), and should not be trusted.
