A Lazy Five Grand

How blasé of  Julia Gillard yesterday to blow off $5000 allegedly deposited into her bank account from Bruce Wilson.
"Now I do not have a memory of this money going into my account. However, it is a long time ago. And so I have taken steps to try and check. I specifically made inquiries of the Commonwealth Bank, the Commonwealth Bank was mentioned in the report, I did have a Commonwealth Bank account at the time. They have advised me it is not possible to get records from 17 years ago."
Let's not forget how much $5000 was in 1995. You could buy a reasonable used car for $2000, or a tidy little home for just over $100,000. A new car was $10,000 to $15,000. A new '486' computer was about $1500-$2000 depending on if you wanted a color CRT monitor with it. If someone gave me $5000 in 1995 I'd definitely remember it. If you were earning $40,000 a year in 1995 you were doing really well, so $5000 (TAX FREE?!?!) in 1995 was an awesome amount.
So she can't help us with the five grand. Oh well, she didn't deny it, just isn't going there apparently, and there's this guy who says he took $5000 and banked it into her account, whom she hasn't done a character assassination on (yet), so she didn't really answer that question, you know, the one where the guy accused of ripping off hundreds of thousands of dollars causes a large sum of cash to be deposited into her private bank account.
